The CAA programme provides an avenue for prospective chartered accountants to receive training without going through an audit firm.
About
In April 2010, the City of Cape Town entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with National Treasury for the purpose of training prospective Chartered Accountants in terms of the SAICA rules and regulations.
The programme strives to attract and retain key finance and accounting professionals within the public sector. The City’s first Chartered Accountant Academy (CAA) trainee joined in 2010 and qualified as a chartered accountant in March 2013.
Criteria
To qualify for the CAA programme, candidates must have completed or must be in their final year of completing the Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (CTA), Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA) or B.Com Accounting Honours, which will enable them to write the qualifying board examination.
Structure of the CAA programme
The three-year training programme has been structured in a manner that offers the trainee exposure in key areas with specialisation in Financial Management and Management Decision-Making and Control. Exposure to the relevant areas is gained through rotation to the various divisions within the City of Cape Town.
